This is a two-story home. The stairs run from the second-story floor to the first floor. From above, not all of the stairway is visible.
Based on ANSI Standard, do you include the portion of stairs not seen looking from the 2nd floor down? If you count the stair portion not seen, are you double counting the 2nd floor area?
Answer: Count the stairs in total and add them to the 2nd floor area. You are adding the portion of stairs not seen, but that is ANSI protocol. There are several situations where one measurement won't match another. Follow one method all the time.
